The Town's garden-hose rule for unpainted brick
Founded in 1787, Middleburg grew up as a coach stop and relay station on Ashby's Gap Turnpike. Its historic district went onto the state register in 1981 and the national one in 1982, and the Town's 2019 plan counts over 160 buildings in it.
Middleburg's own Historic District Design Guidelines, adopted in August 2021 and updated in August 2026, put a number on cleaning, and they put it on unpainted brick: a low-pressure wash at “no more than 200 psi, equivalent to the pressure in a garden hose,” with a mild detergent only when needed and a test spot first. Wood siding, they add, should be kept away from high-pressure power washing.
Stucco gets its own line. For stucco, the guidelines prefer “a low-pressure water wash and soft bristle brush,” and then add: “Take care not to damage the surface texture.”

Stucco downtown and in the older neighborhoods
Washington Street, part of US 50, is the main street of a commercial core that takes in Marshall and Federal streets too. The 1982 nomination's inventory of Washington Street lists stuccoed houses next to stucco commercial buildings, one of them a stone-and-stucco building put up for an automobile agency. Shops, restaurants, and offices there keep their own hours, and we plan the wash around them so nobody has to close. Businesses can be invoiced.
Stucco carries on past the core. A 2002 survey found most of the Ridge View neighborhood, north of West Washington Street, built from about 1920 on. Across the whole area it studied, most buildings were one- or one-and-a-half-story frame houses clad in weatherboard, stucco, or stone veneer. The Town's plan says its roughly 429 homes are smaller and older than the county's, many built by the 1930s, with higher maintenance needs. For a house, we suggest a wash once a year.
Bluestone walks, random-ashlar walls, and orange rust
The guidelines name brick, bluestone, slate, native stone, and patterned concrete from earlier eras as the historic paving of the district's walks and driveways. The nomination adds flagstone sidewalks along Washington Street under mature shade trees, and the Town has been a Tree City USA since 2001. The guidelines call stone walls laid in random ashlar a strong site element in town and across the region.
Where a patio at home is laid in bluestone or flagstone pavers, that's work for our surface cleaner.
Out past the town limits, Loudoun's General Plan counts over 15,000 private wells as of 2018, mostly in western Loudoun. The EPA lists reddish or orange stains among the effects of iron in water, and our rust remover lifts that orange off most surfaces. Even the Town's own supply comes from five wells and is treated to remove high concentrations of iron and manganese.

How a Middleburg quote works
Middleburg is about 33 miles from Front Royal, under an hour out I-66 and then Route 17 or Route 50. Jobs in Loudoun County have no travel fee and no job minimum.
- Send pictures by text to 540-514-5916 or through the form, with a close shot of any stucco, stone, or rust, so we can say which walls get a soft wash and which a pressure wash.
- The pictures usually settle the price. When a job is extremely complex, we come and look before quoting. Either way, the quote is free.
- Nobody has to stay home for the wash. Satisfaction guaranteed. If we missed anything, tell us and we'll come back and make it right.
